Oscar Awards 2020

The Oscar Awards 2020 will be airing Sunday, February 9th on ABC at 8pm EST / 5pm PST. This will be the second year in a row that the massively anticipated Hollywood award ceremony has chosen to operate without a celebrity host, or even a host at all. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences released their complete list of nominations for 2019 films during the middle of January, and there has been a slew of commentary flying around since.

A major hot point for Oscars 2020 discussion, is the dual-nomination of Scarlett Johansson. After delivering a stellar acting career up to this point, Johansson has yet to be nominated for an Oscar Award before 2020. Now, she has become just one of 12 actors and actresses to be nominated for two in the same year. Although the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has strict rules preventing any actor or actress from being nominated for two Oscars in the same category, they do allow for nominations in separate categories. Scarlett Johansson is currently nominated for Best Actress for Marriage Story, and Best Supporting Actress for Jojo Rabbit.

As for films looking to make impressive Oscars 2020 sweeps, two projects are currently sitting atop all others. This year's awards ceremony seems to be a battle between Joker, Directed by Todd Phillips, and The Irishman, Directed by Martin Scorsese. Each film has garnered about the same number of Oscar chances. Joker, the realistic origin story of Batman's most devious nemesis, has been nominated for 11 Oscar Awards in 2020. The Irishman, the powerful story of Frank Sheeran's rise as a top hit-man within the Italian Mafia, has received 10 Oscar Award Nominations.

Tune in to ABC on Sunday, February 9th to catch every star-struck moment from the 2020 Oscar Awards!
